LK Hjelle – Norwegian design furniture crafted to last

Founded in 1940 by Lars Karl Hjelle, LK Hjelle is a family-owned Norwegian furniture manufacturer rooted in the rich furniture-making traditions of Sykkylven, often referred to as the furniture capital of Norway. Now in its third generation, the company designs and produces high-quality furniture at its own factory, guided by a simple ambition: to create furniture people never want, or need, to part with.

Designed for a long life

For LK Hjelle, good design goes hand in hand with lasting function. Since 2021, all new products have been developed with circularity at their core – using no glue or unnecessary staples, with changeable upholstery and components designed to be repaired or replaced.

The philosophy is not new. It is embodied by Siesta, the iconic lounge chair designed by Ingmar Relling in 1965. Every component can be repaired or replaced, and more than one million Siesta chairs have been sold worldwide. Designed to be renewed rather than replaced, it represents the enduring idea at the heart of LK Hjelle: Long Lasting Love.

A legacy of Scandinavian design

LK Hjelle has been part of the Norwegian design story for more than eight decades. Its collection brings together internationally recognised icons and contemporary designs, working with both established and emerging Norwegian designers including Andreas Engesvik, Hallgeir Homstvedt, Studio Sløyd, Lars Tornøe and Jonas Stokke.

From lounge chairs and sofas to smaller pieces, the collection combines a strong design heritage with a contemporary perspective – creating furniture made for how we live today, and for many years to come.

Made in Norway

LK Hjelle is one of the few Norwegian furniture manufacturers still producing at its own factory in Norway. Every piece is made to order, combining skilled craftsmanship and modern technology with carefully selected materials, sourced as locally as possible.

From Sykkylven, LK Hjelle furniture is made for homes, offices and public spaces in more than 20 countries – bringing Norwegian design, craftsmanship and long-lasting quality to people around the world.
